boat on campamento beachWelcome to Campamento! With the blessing of Hondurans Orleis and Arturo Ramos, who own and operate Campamento Beach Resort, we are happy to invite you to our unique little corner of Honduras. My uncle, Bill Heise, and his wife Carol have been living adjacent to Campamento for over 16 years, and have essentially become part of Orleis and Arturo’s extended family. Bill has been windsurfing by himself for most of those 16 years, so I think he’s looking forward to having a few windsurfers and kiters out on the water with him. I’m Chad Heise, and along with my cousin Eric Heise, we hope to bring a few adventurous souls to Campamento to share in the consistent tradewinds, beautiful surroundings and unique culture that we’ve come to love.

The finishing touches are presently being put on the new 10-room hotel, and there are 8 comfy cabanas available as well. All are equipped with hot water, satellite TV and air-conditioning. Orleis serves up local specialties in the restaurant (all cooked in her clay oven), and a full bar provides post-session libations. We might even have the beach deck finished by the time you get down there — a great spot for watching sunsets.

grounds at campamento beach resortCampamento is also a great place to bring the family. There’s miles of white sand beaches, a nice pool for lounging, beautiful grounds, and we have horses, kayaks, and boat trips to various snorkeling locations available. Jungle tours, hot spring visits and other adventures can also be arranged. Several Garifuna villages are within walking distance, and an evening of listening to their traditional “punta” music is a must. We are planning to line up a few Saturday night concerts at the restaurant (punta is played entirely on conch shells, turtle shells, and other indigenous percussive instruments).

ancient pottery by the poolIn preparing for this venture, we reminded ourselves that Campamento is unique and unspoiled, and we’d like to keep it that way. Though the accommodations are luxurious, this is not what you’d call a “luxury resort.” It is a proudly Honduran-owned and operated establishment, with whom we’ve partnered to offer a unique experience to the right kind of people. bird's-eye view of pool at campamento beach resortWe want friendly and respectful people who will be as interested in the culture as they are the consistent winds. Those who are excited by going a bit off the beaten path will love the adventurous nature of a trip to Campamento. It’s remote Honduras, and sometimes the hot water might not work, or you might not get internet access, or the electricity might go out for a couple of hours, but we’d hope that you’d be able to roll with it while we do our best to remedy whatever might not be working. mountains behind campamento beachThat said, picture a day where you can stroll the beach in the morning, hike up to the mud-hut village of Kunda and meet its friendly residents, go horseback riding, then grab some top-of-the-line gear and head out for a few hours of 5.0 to 6.0 bump and jump conditions in turquoise Caribbean waters with 4000-foot rainforest mountains as your backdrop. Finish up with a sunset cocktail, fresh fish cooked to perfection, and retire to your room or cabana to watch a movie. Then get up and do it all over again...
