equipment

Through the help of Garrett Scotti and Todd Greaux at Adventure Sports Miami, Campamento is equipped with all new JP Australia boards and Neil Pryde sails and accessories. We expect kiters to bring their own gear, though we do have a small selection of kites, boards and accessories available.

Neil Pryde sailsWe have the following boards from JP Australia, from 84 litre to 105 litre — Freestyle, Freestyle Wave, and X-Cite Ride. We have the following sails from Neil Pryde, from 5.0 meter to 6.2 meter — Zone, Expression, Excess and Alpha. Our masts, booms, extensions, and bases are all new Neil Pryde X3 and X6. We also have brand new Neil Pryde 3D Crossover waist harnesses.

Additionally, while Campamento is largely equipped for the intermediate to advanced sailor, we do have a variety of older gear for beginners (including some uphaul rigs), and lessons can be arranged.

JP Australia boardsSince we are a small operation, we’ve only got enough gear to accommodate 4-6 sailors at a time. We will obviously take this into account when booking trips, so what it means for you is completely uncrowded sailing at all times!

We ask that you treat the gear as if it were your own. It’s difficult to get equipment to this remote corner of the globe, so we’d like to get a season or two out of what we’ve got (2008 is our inaugural year). So, please be nice to the gear — users will assume all responsibility for damage to equipment, normal wear and tear exempted.

Mitchell trying out a sailThe windy season for Trujillo is generally February through August, though local Slovenian wind guru Darko Mesko (our version of iwindsurf.com) reports that there are windy days almost every month of the year. June, July and August are considered the most consistent months. For internet wind fanatics, you can check wind statistics for Trujillo at www.wunderground.com. Keep in mind that these readings are from the Trujillo airport, which is protected and some distance from the water. We’ve found that actual wind speed on the water (especially further down the bay at Campamento) is about 10 mph more than the readings from the airport. The wind is good. Take it from my uncle Bill, who’s been sailing there for 16 years!
